1. DIY anything from smallest to biggest
One of the biggest money-savers I discovered during my remodel was taking on as many DIY projects as possible.

I started by repainting my old cabinets instead of replacing them. Let me tell you, this was a game changer.
I watched a few YouTube tutorials on how to prep and paint cabinets properly, and once I got the hang of it, it was surprisingly easy.

I also updated the cabinet hardware—just swapping out the old knobs and handles made such a huge difference! You can check this Knobs Pack on Amazon that would be perfect for any cabinet you want to put into.
For me, I was a little nervous at first, but they were super simple to install, and the result looks amazing. It was a great way to add a pop of personality to the kitchen for a fraction of the cost.
2. Use a Multipurpose Kitchen Island

When I was planning my remodel, I knew I needed a kitchen island, but custom islands can get really expensive.

So, I went with a mobile, multipurpose island. Not only did it add extra counter space, but it also doubled as storage for my pots, pans, and other kitchen essentials.
Kitchen Island
If you’re on a tight budget like I was, I highly recommend going this route. It’s functional and can be moved around if I need to change the layout. Check this Kitchen Island from Amazon that is very convenient for your easy to reach plates or tea pot set because I like making teas a lot (my English breakfast tea and Yorkshire tea are my favorites.
If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you could even DIY your own island. I repurposed an old table I found at a thrift store and added some wheels to it—talk about a budget-friendly option! All my friends and even my cousins recommends me so much of Facebook Marketplace; It is a good haven to go search up for home stuff and refurbish it up.
3. Update Cabinets Instead of Replacing Them

As much as I wanted brand new, custom kitchen cabinets, the cost was just not realistic. Instead, I gave my old cabinets a facelift.

I used a combination of sanding, painting, and new hardware to make them look brand new. Honestly, I couldn’t believe the transformation!

Okay once you are done with that, I do recommend this from Amazon this Kitchen Cabinet Liner for protection, I kid you not – you need this.
The key here is to focus on the small changes—like fresh paint and new knobs—and you’ll be amazed at how much it updates the space without the hefty price tag.
4. Opt for Budget-Friendly Countertops

Instead of going for granite or quartz, I opted for laminate countertops. I know, I know, laminate has a reputation for being a bit old-school, but trust me, it’s come a long way.

I found some gorgeous options that mimic marble and other high-end materials at a fraction of the price. And, let’s be honest, the difference in cost was huge.

Peel-and-stick backsplash tiles were one of my best discoveries. They’re so easy to install, and the variety of designs out there is amazing.

Another DIY project I tackled was my backsplash. Instead of hiring a contractor, I decided to try peel-and-stick backsplash tiles.
I chose a classic subway tile design, and it totally transformed my kitchen. It’s the perfect mix of modern and timeless, and the best part?

Plus, it’s super durable, which is perfect for a kitchen.
